Day to Day Living at Ballachulish

We believe this chapter in our clients life should be one to enjoy and we continue to promote a sense of community.

Abbeyfield is a hive of activity; seasonal crafts, book time, musical concerts, music therapy, memory lane, drama, art classes and games…including our fiercely competitive Boccia and indoor curling challenges, to name but a few.

Our Activities coordinator can tailor activities to promote inclusion or continuation of previous interests and life skills. Clients have the choice to take part, or if they would rather, enjoy a chat in the lounge or some quiet time in another area of the building.

The communal areas and activities are designed to promote companionship amongst our clients, family, visitors, and the Team. Church services for various denominations are held every week. Unfortunately we do not allow pets, but have many visits from petting animals; dogs, miniature ponies, birds etc.

Mealtimes are friendly affairs in our dining room or breakfast area. Clients can also choose to eat in their rooms. Our chef creates a variety of tasty, nutritious food and there are always choices. We are able to cater for special diets and allergies.

Medical Services

In addition to our 24 hour nursing services, Abbeyfield Ballachulish provides access to services such as: podiatry, opticians, dietitian, dental. Other medical services are available as required.

Our service was one of the pioneers in utilising digital technologies. Our video conferencing service gives support to our clients and local community, running diabetic and mental health clinics  which offers live links to hospital clinics and consultants.

Abbeyfield Ballachulish is well supported by our local Ballachulish GP surgery and the Community Nurses, with whom we have built very strong relationships. The surgery is within walking distance, and offers us a handy dispensing/repeat prescription service.

Community nurses are located in the building and are available to give support to our nursing staff for residential clients, Day Care and Lunch Club clients.

Visitors

We encourage family and visitors (including family pets) at all times and invite them to join in activities or social events taking place within the home.
